Sorry but there is something fundamentally wrong with this demo. The recording using the Sound Devices Mixpre has a ton of room ambience compared to the first (direct) recording which is far drier. This is due to the microphone placement/distance NOT the Mixpre or lack of it. Is it possible the camera mic was also operational when the Mixpre was used? If not then the micing technique was different for each test.

I have measured the audio performance of the EOS5D mic input (see Lindos test sheet database), and designed an interface to professional line levels which corrects for the bass rolloff in the camera. The EOS5D actually has the lowest noise level, when properly interfaced, of all the cameras we tested (Lumix GH2 is good but noisier) and can give superb sound - see the Lindos Electronics Youtube channel, and the Also 'Robert Brown Castellani' videos made with Lindos Minisonic mic kit.

what sound device mixer are you using and what is the recommendation for the microphone. Cool video
Hi mike. On youtube you can found test between 5D and Gh2, but in some test, the 5D seems to have an ND filter or an varifilter. In your video "5D vs Gh2" there is very low (invisible) diference. Do you think an ND filter can help to have better detail and more contrast on very shinny details?

@4002inch no, the ND filter can't enhance image quality, I find very little difference between the two, the GH2 was not hacked however,
