R.I.P. Tim Russert :(

No, its about fending for your self and not being caught unarmed, look at New Orleans, thats what Uzi's are for!
-
It is the right to bear arms it's not only about going hunting.

Tim missed the point, the assault weapons ban didn't make machine guns illegal. The machine gun ban from the 30's did that. All the assault weapons ban did was outlaw superficial adjustments to rifles, it did nothing to their lethality. Also, again Richardson needs to distinguish between the mentally ill and the criminally insane. They're not the same thing.

Hunters don't have a need for 'uzis and street sweepers' Citizens do. The 2nd amendment is in place so that the government doesn't have a monopoly on force.
So called assault weapons only account for 1% of all gun crime according to the DoJ. An assault weapons ban would be a meaningless piece of legislation and Mr.Richardson knows it.

How can I not want "full hard gun control" because for those who don't pay any attention to the law and break it anyway don't care about gun control. If they are going to be illegally armed, I'm going to be able to legally shoot back.

I am so sick of these school shootings, crazy students going over the edge and being able to buy guns, it is ridiculous. I live in Philadelphia where there is at least one murder every day. In 2006 there were 406 homicides and I'm pretty sure that there will be more this year. So how can you not want full hard gun control?
A better term for 'gun control' is 'victim disarmament.' The criminals won't obey the gun laws, but the law-abiding gun owners WILL. Then you'll have DISARMED law-abiding people and hordes of ARMED and emboldened criminals.

What I find irritating is that some people think that ONLY hunters, cops, and the military need guns. Since when did you have to kill something living to own a gun? I have been "killing" paper for the better part of twenty years and get tired of all the emphasis on killing things. Yes, I know guns are weapons (Duuuuuuuh.) but if you questioned people at gun ranges you would find an awful lot of people just like me.
