john roberts - sophisticated funk
this 45 by john roberts was released in 1967, making it one of the first funk 45's
sophisticated funk is the b-side to the amazing sockin 1234 which went to number 19 on the billboard r&b charts
you don't need to drop a fortune for a copy of this great double sider, it was released on the texas based duke label in the us and on the sue label in the uk
this 45 is another fine example of the fact that 45's don't have to be rare, they have to be good

  • I remember John Roberts playing in Houston in the 60s. Was he from here? Also, I thought his backing band was the Hurricanes. Correct? My 45 of this song is on the Duke label.

  • **FACEBOOK POST** says...i posted the flip side t this yesterday (Friday?) after sharing off a friend's post. I hadn't listened to it in years and the sight of that yellow n red label brought back many memories of collecting this label's 45's in Liverpool, early 80's. I was one of a handful of mods searching record fairs aswell as thumbing the back pages of Record Collector...i wasn't the only one collecting this label. And WHAT A LABEL IT IS.

  • you can't fault this label

  • hahaha still laugh my sweet 'lil ass off! tres equis my first palabras from our chile gringos & cypress sampled that back in the goldschool 90'ies! funny shit!
