@ugatrotters Thanks for your reply. Your boy is an amazing swimmer! Its mesmerizing! We plan to do a lot of swimming with our son this fall. Happy to hear he dropped the limp pretty quickly. Thanks again for your info and support. Its nice not to feel alone in this as it does not seem common. All the best!

@ugatrotters I cant wait for it to be a distant memory! Happy to hear he has no effects. I've been warned he could have one leg shorter than the other for a while with a big limp- which should even out ove time. Did this happen to your son? How long before he was physically active like normal again? Did he suffer joint pain after the cast was removed? Also- did the cast STINK? Any tips on that? Our sons is starting to really smell (its been on for over 2 weeks now). Thanks so much for your help!

My son has 2 more weeks in that cast he's 6 months I have a video of him under broken femur bone baby he's the one laying on the hospital bed in the full cast.. I can't wait till he gets out of the cast. He wants to roll over and crawl so bad. We have to get up at-least 6 times at night to put him on his back then his stomach.....
My 18 month old son is currently in a spica after breaking his right femur from a slip on the bathroom floor. Its been so challenging but like you, we have had so much help, support, food, etc. which has made a huge difference. I know my heart will stop every time he falls after this but I pray none of us will have to watch our children endure this again. Can't wait for our boy to get his mojo back like yours did!!! THANKS so much for sharing. Makes us feel less alone in this!

@MrsBishbulb I'm glad the vid helps. Sounds like our boys got hurt in the same way. We are almost one year removed from his broken femur and it seems like it happened lifetimes ago. (For our 2nd born, it was a lifetime ago) There are no effects from the injury, other than the world stopping every time he falls in a similar way. He's had 4 similar falls in the last year, but after each one he has popped up and kept running. In a few months, this will all be a distant memory.

@MrsBishbulb He was only in it for 4 weeks, by the end it was pretty smelly. No tips there. If one leg was/is shorter, we can't tell. Some joint pain, but only for a short time and it didn't seem to limit him. He was walking again (with a strange limp) within 2 weeks, but he didn't completely drop the limp for about 2 months. We think he was limping not because of pain, but because he had to relearn his gait. He is also swimmer and drs said that was great for rehab.

I found your video after googling "spica cast removal." My 21 month old son broke his femur on February 13, and will have his spica cast removed this Friday after 5 weeks, 5 days. Like your son, he has been relatively happy while in the cast, but I can't wait to see his true spirit return. Your video has given me hope that my son will be back to his old self as quickly as yours was.

@ZeroPreload470 Even if its not as quick, he will get back to himself soon. 7 months removed from all of that, we look back on the time spent in spica as a bad dream. Its a distant memory. The only lasting effect is a bit of fear that pops up every time he falls in a similar way to the way he broke his leg. There is no fear on his part, but his mom and I stop breathing for a second every time he falls with a bit of a twist. Thanks for sharing your hope. Its one of the reasons I posted.
