Here we go, another music video. I didn't have much of a song to work with since it was given to me by a friend. The subject of this video is the movie Tron, not the game this time. I guess you can say this is the video I put the most time into... but only because the song was messing up my program. Enjoy it if you can. Also note that the quality of this video was greatly reduced for the website.

  • pretty sweet, i love Tron.

  • waiting for tron legacy :))))

  • Check out the Wikipedia article on TRON (film) and then link to the Wiki article titled Foonly.

More good info in the documentary "Computers are people too" and on the TRON 25th Anniversary DVD.

  • Apparently one of the people that worked on the TRON graphics later founded Wavefront, merged with Alias, resulting in the creation of Maya.

Alot of the 3D graphics in TRON was created without a graphical user interface. For example, the light cycle sequence in the canyon was plotted mathematically using coordinates in lines of code. What we call a 3D app user interface was being built day-by-day through the process of making the movie.

  • All custom software/hardware from III, Synthavision, and Robert Abel and associates. Some were raster based rendering, some were wireframe vector graphics shot with gels to give color and over multiple exposures to fake solid shading depending on the shot. Some elements were 2d animated. The idea of a graphics workstation didn't come around until the mid 80's. All of those companies are gone now. Today there's Rhythm and Hues Studios which was founded by ex Abel people.

  • I believe the computer was called Foonley which was a modified DEC 10. It broke down often so a tech was always around to troubleshoot and locate what circuit failed (because of wirewrapping)

  • Does anyone know what Operating system(s) / Program(s) / Application(s)were used to create this movie back in '82?.

    Thanks

  • Nice job putting this togehter!
