@OmegaBlueWind74 No there isn't. I've seen Obama's speeches on the space program and none of them are about keeping constilation. He talks a lot about keeping leadership in space but he never supported that program. You may be confused by the fact that the funding mechanism was still in place after it was cancelled, by his continued support of orion, or by the simularities to the new SLS.

NASA has never planned a manned mission to Mars or had anything like that on the books.

Yes he did. There's a video of him making a speech saying that he would fund for it. Granded, the ISS thing has been improved on, but I think Obama said that the moon program is no longer part of the budget (not machine wise though, what I'm talking about is manned landings) and we are forced go to directly to Mars instead (AT LEAST he didn't cancel that, as NASA was planning to have astronuats there anyways).

@OmegaBlueWind74 Obama never said he supported constilation. Ares 1 would have been ready in 5 years only with a dramatic increase in budget that no one with any influence was ever pushing and that was only to the ISS. 2019 was the realistic estimate (still just to the ISS), and that was just for the first test flight with no regular flights untill the 2020's. Nothing was going to land anywhere untill the late 2020's. Now we can be back at the Iss in a few years and back to the moon before 2028.

Yeah, I heard. However, I lost a bit of repsect from him approving of its cancellation. It also dosn't help that Obama announced at one point that he would SUPPORT the program, then he ends up canceling it. Are you happy that our "new" space program will now take us atleast TEN years (where as, it was 5 years with Ares 1 and 5 at WORST) to land on something out in space (and no, I'm not counting the ISS or any other space station)?
