anyone who really knows cats can tell by the body language that it's not upset. For one, the entire tail needs to be THRASHING to be 'annoyed'. When the tip or lower half is simply FLICKING it's playful body language.
Two, if the cat was annoyed it would not have been gently pawing at the kitten like it was. When a cat is upset it generally stays still (holding it's ground), thrashes it's tail, and hisses/growls.
