Nagel Beverage Company was founded on September 20, 1895 when John Nagel Sr. of Baker City, Oregon purchased a soda water business in downtown Boise. The business served 10 saloons in the area by horse-drawn wagons, and was based at the northwest corner of Fifth and Idaho streets.
In 1905, the business expanded and relocated to 13th and Main streets. John started producing flavored soda waters under the Nagel Beverages name, and began producing and selling Hires Root Beer. In 1935, John obtained the Pepsi Cola, Squirt and Canada Dry franchise rights for the 10 southwestern counties of Idaho. Later that year a partnership was formed between John Nagel and Homer Levander in order to acquire the Pepsi Cola franchise for the 8 South Central counties of Idaho. That partnership became Pepsi Cola Bottling of Twin Falls. Twin Falls still remains a Nagel and Levander family partnership.
Nagel Beverage Company has been a Nagel family company for over 113 years.
