and also, the ones who say they believe in god so they wont go to hell are idiots. belief is only half. james, jesus' brother, said " you say you believe? even the demons believe and tremble! faith without works is dead!" so belief is as good as saying if im a decent person ill get into heaven...which is also a load of crap.

It is a very effective and long established tactic to use fear to convert. And I don't think people who use the argument are ridiculous: believe so something bad doesn't happen to you. We're all, after all, self centered. People using this tactic and the fact that this tactic works is a testimony to the selfishness of humans.

I like your perspective on relgious preaching quite a bit. I never was a very strong Christian growing up but I definetly had attended Church up until I was about 11. I'm quite agnostic now but I still give merit to Christianity for what it is, which is a strong set of morals and beliefs that can guide a person's reason for existance, etc. but its the approach in which many Christians try to use that gives them a bad name. The whole FEAR GOD thing just doesn't work with faith...

I can appreciate your perspective, since I too was strongly Christian. Losing my faith wasn't a pleasant experience for me but I had to question it because part of my doctrine/philosophy was that truth, _real_ truth, is important and I should seek it. I was expecting to find reasons to make my faith stronger but what I got instead was more and more uncertainty and doubt. It was rather depressing.
