LAKE TAHOE, Nev.--Governor Jim Gibbons helped celebrate the grand opening of the Sand Harbor Visitor Center June 15, 2007 at Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park.

The grand opening featured McAvoy Layne as Mark Twain, a ribbon cutting ceremony by Governor Jim Gibbons and tours and talks about the park provided by Nevada Division of State Parks staff.

The Visitor Center, located at Sand Harbor, recently opened to the public and is designed to provide educational and interpretive programs to visitors to Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park. The center gives the park new services, including a bistro and gift shop operated by Harbor House Bistro and Beach Goods that features California Culinary graduate Chef Paul Bonaldi.

The $5 million facility was built with money from the Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program, the 2002 Question 1 Conservation Bond, the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund grant and the Tahoe License Plate Fund.
