1941 Philco wireless record player transmitting to 540 AM on a 1937 Zenith radio model 5-S-127. It's all being recorded with a late 1940's Shure 556 Microphone attached to a Canon HG10 HD camcorder.
Great post, never seen one that transmitted its audio before - brilliant! Love the stock footage from a radio broadcast for the unit being played on it via an iPhone/iPod Touch, hehe!
Is there a transmitter in the turntable base somewhere? How exactly is the signal being transmitted to the AM radio? Thanks for posting! I've never seen one of these before & in pristine condition to boot!
I recently bought a Shure 556 on ebay and but it's going to take a while to get to me since I live in Chile. I'm on my toes longing to have it to experiment with. . . Can you give me your opinion on what texture it gives (without the texture of a radio or record player involved) when picking up a live singing voice? I'm just dying to know. Does it pick up the singable frequencies? Does it sound old and grungy? XD
I love it. And I'm so glad you didn't talk, it gives the video so much style and such an old-timey feeling, since we hear only sound passed through a time-warp filter (the radio, record player and mic). this is so cool!

There is indeed a transmitter inside the unit, do a search for "Phono Oscillator" and you will find the answer.

(I'd love to hear back from you since your video is cool and I can't find any other audio sample of a Shure 556 anywhere!
