Fort Thomas Highlands Football Recap 2009 5A State Championship season.
* 3rd consecutive state championship
* 19th state championship (most in Kentucky history)
* Ranked #4 in the country by USA Today
* Senior Class Record 54-1
Highlands currently ranks fifth in the entire nation and second in Kentucky with respect to total number of wins (787 wins).
This class of seniors has the best record in the history of Highlands football.
This championship season was dedicated to two Highlands teammates who would have been seniors but passed away way too soon. #33 Quin Stapleton and #21 Mitch Waldenmeyer:
You guys had bluebird blood flowing through your bodies and this senior class was better having known bot of you guys.
Cool Coincidence: Quinn's number 33 added to Mitch's number 21 would equal 54. The total number of wins this senior class amassed.
Highlands is supposed to play in class 3A (by KHSAA's enrollment-assigned class system) but they asked and have been granted permission to play up 2 classes in a much tougher 5A class. Highlands also schedules the toughest opponents they are able for each of thier non-district games, usually playing one of the powerhouse football programs from across the river in Cincinnati Ohio.
