@Rainmaker65 Pavarotti was WAY out of his vocal prime by 1995, so your comparison borders on the retarded. Boccelli never had a vocal prime. He always stunk. Badly.
He has virtually no upper register and his technique is crude. That many appear to enjoy what he does is totally irrelevant. Many enjoy what EMINEM does; ergo, by your logic?
FACT: He is absolutely BUTCHERING the Ave Verum Corpus here by literally every standard of the established conventions of classical vocal repertoire.

@djs259 Not hardly. Your inference of one must be educated to be a connoisseur of opera shows your education sucked. As long as the listener appreciates the performance, then the performer has done his/her job. As far as singing "this genre of music," even Maestro had his problems - unless you have forgotten 1995 when he was replaced at intermission for a voice crack, and that voice crack had him banned from performing in the best opera houses in Italy for some time.

@Rainmaker65 Don't kid yourself. Pavarotti was a consummate artist with an exquisite ear and impeccable, unimpeachable taste. He was therefore very acutely aware of the glaring deficiencies of his friend's instrument and technique (which is appalling). That friends have a tendency to gloss over each other's faults is a fact of life. Make no mistake however: Your blind lawyer cannot sing this music worth a damn. All educated connoisseurs of this genre of music agree. End of story. Finito

@djs259 - it is my one wish that the Mother Earth opens up, swallows you whole, and closes up. For when that happens, I will be right there, hovering over the spot where you were spreading salt over the ground that covers you so that NOTHING will ever grow where you lie. You may find comfort in the fact that Maestro so admired Bocelli's voice, he wanted him to sing at his funeral. Oh...learn to spell his name correctly - there's only ONE "c" in Bocelli.

@paulieinct at 1:22 he starts to choke up a bit...

what a lovely tribute for a departed friend. if i were him i woudn't be able to open my mouth without crying. RIP great maestro

@djs259 what an idot. Pavarotti like millions admired Bocelli's voice which is why he wanted him to sing at his funeral.
-
Not exactly his best performance, but he is very clearly singing through his tears. And that is as it should be.

Pavarotti deserved it!
What a truely....truely sad day for us all. May you be carried to heaven on the wings of angels.
