This acclaimed multi-million dollar four-part series shows the rise of the tribes of a primitive culture on the fringe of northern Europe to become the heirs of the Roman Empire.

For a long time the view of the Germanic people of many peoples was distorted by the Germanic cult of the 19th century and the Nazi dictatorship. Due to new methods and discoveries, research is now able to present a different picture of the Germanic tribes. Many clichés about the barbarians of the North have to be discarded as myths.

The linchpin of Germanic history is the conflict with the Roman Empire. Since the age of Caesar this Roman-Germanic conflict was characterized not only by fierce battles but also by phases of co-existence and cooperation. The Germans dug the grave of the Roman Empire, but were also the preservers of the Roman legacy.

The series breathes new life into the little known world of the Germanic tribes. We see how they lived, fought and worshipped their gods. Intricate 3D animation shows how they built their settlements, buried their kings and vanquished their enemies. Roman cities such as the ancient Cologne, home of the Romanophile Germans, and the Roman limes, the border to free Germania, are also reconstructed through magnificent computer graphics and full cast reenactments. This entertaining and informative DVD presents the definitive history of the Germanic people.

  • Well i beg your pardon but was it not the Roman army that was blood thirstily conquering the whole of Europe. The image of the "savage" Barbarians was an image instilled by the Romans of the time and still lives on today. Same goes for the Vikings. Truth is the Romans were perhaps the most savage marauders of all time.

  • That's a typical modern view on history. The Germanic tribes all originated from Scandinavia, therefore had the same background, related and very smiliar languages and cultures, and they surely knew that they were related to each other much closer than, let's say, to the Slavic or Celtic tribes or the Romans. That they had the name "walh" for all non-Germanic people is a hint for a common Germanic identity..

  • @SamHawkens That root has many legacies in modern words. Wales, Wallochia, Cornwall, and even the word "walnut" all have their origins in "walhaz" or "walh"

  • where did the germanics get all of the nicely tailored get-up. This is absolute shit.

  • i dont know what i am, but im sure that some of my forefathers were chatti, because my grandmothers family-name was " Heß " which means " a member of the germanic tribe " chatti " , thats what i found in the internet, but i think we germans are a mix of all franks, saxons etc., every person has about a billion ancestors since charlemagne ( 900 after jesus )

  • rif and kabily in north africa

  • @andy7666 the Celts did originate from Austria so the Germanic tribes and Celtic tribes could have the same ancestor

  • @mikedav9O yes but you are going by the modern construct of race they didn't believe that back then, back in those days people where distinguished by culture not race

  • @Judas666Schrader

mmm dont forget the christian they have murdered millions in history and tortured ppl to. And thats beq they wanted all to see the godness in christianity isnt that a little wierd to?

  • This video proves Romans were not white European. Did you guys hear the part where Caesar lumped all Germanic tribes (white people) together as opposed to brotherly unifying and bringing in the Germans into his kingdom? I have always believed that Romans were a Mediterranean race-- separate and distinct from classical whites. This video confirms my thoughts.

  • That's funny, they speak Czech!
