Diving at Bonne Terre Mine

Here are some video highlights of my dive at the mine in 1997. I relisted this one which is brighter and easier to view. Still one of my most memorable dives ever!

What kind of certs / equipment do you need? I live about an hour from there, and I just got my basic cert through SSI

I think they can accomodate any level of cert. You should only go after you get more experience though as it is deep and cold. The water is 58 degrees, so a full wetsuit is a must. It's well lit from above so they don't allow lights.

You should really not be playing with the shovels and what not like you are, you break it, what do future divers have to look forward to?

First of all, I was behind the video camera, not holding the artifacts. Second, the first one to pick up the items was the divemaster tour guide! With no oxygen, no sunlight, no aquatic life, those items will be preserved for a long time.

hey how deep is this mine? and is there any wildlife in the waters?

There are 5 levels and the deepest three levels are flooded. The surface of the water is about 100 feet below ground. No life at all since there is no oxygen in the water.

@ozbad07 How deep? On the site, it says that the mines can be 300 ft deep, but how deep do most people dive? And would you recommend a 6 mil wetsuit?

I just got back from there, and it was the best experience of my life!! I totally love bon terre mines in missouri and think it is one of the best places to go!!
