Richard Courant (1888 - 1972) a student of David Hilbert founded the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences in New York. The Courant Institute is a leading institution in the field of Applied Mathematics. Courant was also a wonderful writer. Author of the text Differential and Integral Calculus (which we recommend) and with David Hilbert, wrote the classic Methods of Mathematical Physics.

  • I fear I may grow coarse but your recommendation ‘Differential and Integral Calculus’ was completely useless to me.

Or perhaps I should say it came too late.

You see, I already have it. ;)

  • Math is all about the interplay of intuition and rigour like physics is all about the interplay of theory and reality.
