Chris Davies MEP (ALDE ADLE Member) - Intervention at the Seminar: Fish for the Future
Event date: Tuesday 25 January 2011 12:30 to 14:00
Location: EP PHS 1C47
The need for an ambitious CFP reform
Plans for radical reform of the Common Fisheries Policy will be published by the European Commission in May. This will be our chance to put an end to wasteful, short term policies that have emptied our seas of fish and left Europe importing 60% of the fish eaten here. To secure important change we need to campaign together across the political groups to put in place the measures needed to ensure that we have sustainable fish supplies for the future and secure jobs for fishermen.
If you want to help bring about far-reaching and significant reform please come to this lunchtime meeting in Parliament on Tuesday, 25 January. Speakers will include representatives from the Cabinet of Commissioner Damanaki, from a major European food retailer, and from environmental group WWF.
