My (Alex Niculescu) more official entry for the philips collection movie contest, (i know it's 1.06, but the last 3 seconds i can't get rid of in imovie, i don't know how to, sorry).

the song at the end is College by Animal Collective, a (relatively) local band, from their "Sung Tongs" album

again, I said "local" band when I made this, in 2006, pre-Merriweather Post Pavilion, when Animal Collective were a decidedly more avant-garde and locally-based act, although yes by that time members had moved on to other areas. However, with Paw Tracks (their label) based in DC and a lot of shows happening in that region, I grew up with feeling that AnCo was a pretty local effort, even if they can now play Lollapalooza hahaha (who would have thought?)

oh yeah. local bands play in brazil all the time, don't they bud?:)

um, i meant they were from the area, not that they play exclusively in my region. i think that's a pretty common usage for the term, but it can be seen both ways. either way, i think it's appropriate to rep where they come from (baltimore), since they are becoming such a bigger deal internationally

Only some of the members were from Baltimore. Animal Collective's members don't all even live in the same state. They're just an ever-changing line-up of musicians who come together to create music. They never intended to keep so many of the same members around for so long, but life often happens in a most unintended fashion. =)
