The ARA General Belgrano was an Argentine Navy cruiser sunk during the Falklands War (Spanish: Guerra de las Malvinas) by the Royal Navy submarine HMS Conqueror with the loss of 323 lives. Losses from the Belgrano totalled just over half of Argentine deaths in the Falklands conflict.

Formerly the USS Phoenix (CL-46), she saw action in World War II before being sold to Argentina in 1951. She is the only ship ever to have been sunk by a nuclear-powered submarine and only the second sunk in action by any type of submarine since World War II; the first being the Indian frigate INS Khukri by the Pakistani Hangor during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.

The vessel was the second to have been named after Manuel Belgrano, the first being a 7,069-ton armoured cruiser completed in 1899.

We, the British, fought a war 8000 miles from home, a logistical nightmare and we still were victorious. We British have the knowledge to fight and win, we fight untill the bitter end and never give up. Yes we lost lives and some Type 42's but we still had the balls to step up and fight. I love my country and as a member of the Royal Navy will proudly and gladly defend it whatever the cost to myself. This is the known risk we accept when we sign the dotted line. God save the queen

@jbaroli I think it's madness in 2012 argentina still thinks it can rule over people against there wishes. She is making a lot of noise most of it is hot air. Getting madonnas ex to say we should "return" them i read in the paper and had a laugh she is getting desperate. I don't think it would happen but it would be a shame if a war happened because of her ego and argie pride, yeh London is great best city in the world ;)

Why in earth we would want to recover those cold islands since we should improve what we have? and what we are? Believe me we have better things to do, but to show power and hide other social and economic problems, this goverment (certainly, not "mine" or chosen by me) does this.
