The L.N.E.R brought some 6,550 locomotives into the possession of British Railway when it was created in 1948 only a handful survive today. However, they include what are probably the mast famous of all steam engines, sir nigel gresley`s immortal "Flying Scotsman" and "Mallard", the latter being the fastest steam engine ever. But L.N.E.R Steam locomotives were not all glamorour- humble freight engine and tank engines went about their everyday tasks and whilst we see plenty of the express pacifics, both tody and yasterday, thiis programme also in cludes glimpses of how it used to be in the 1950`s and 1960`s
