I never understood why Colonel Parker didn't allow Elvis to perform in other countries. Especially in Europe, Because they were just as crazy about Elvis over there, than we were here.

@phyllisfiredwards1 ..and Elvis was dope sick...although a wonderful person, none the less drug dependent. We know more now about addiction and the affects it has on a person. 'They' didn't openly approach such things back then.

I think Colonel Parker was a double edged sword for Elvis, one side was a protective manager, the other side he was a controlling bastard. He did many bad things for Elvis's career and the man himself.

I believe the Tom Parker helped Elvis immensely there is no question about that, however, he also was shrewd. I believe Elvis depended on "the colonel" for so long he felt he couldn't do the business side and stayed with him out of fear of failure Tom Parker made alot of serious mistakes concerning Elvis's movie career and the music he sang in them Elvis hated them and with good reason, the song's were silly and as this video states just wasn't Elvis I think they embarrassed him He held him back
