A 3d concept I made for a home-made bass pedal for Rock Band i'm designing. It's over-engineered but I really want to make a decent quality pedal.
Please don't post any comments telling me to buy a pedal of any sort, I know what is available and I am just considering options.
Plus it would make a good project.
Basically, there are two pivots, one on the pedal, and one on the base. These are connected with four rubber bands to ensure they are always facing each other (a bit wear-and-tear I know but I can live with replacing rubber-bands).
The red-thing is a Momentary-on-switch, which is mounted on a spring, which is mounted on the bottom pivot. When the pedal is depressed the cylinder-pressy-bit on the top pivot presses down on the momentary-on-switch but does not technically press the button straight away. The whole button itself moves down untill the compression on the spring is high enough to push the button into the pressy-down-bit to press it.
Handling the pressing of the button this way means that there is only enough force on the button to press it down (and slightly over) at a maximum, which reduces damage on the button (as opposed to smashing down on it with a pedal) as the spring takes the load of the pedal itself (not to mention the spring that will go under the major part of the pedal to keep it up)
I think that makes sense... the rubber-band animation is kinda sketchy, but I think you guys get the gist of it =)
Nope, it's a button on a spring :P Read the description next time
