Well you can't really be a 'profiler' You can profile, but there isn't a job title as a profilers. The Behavioral analysis unit.

Profiler is a real job, it's the BAU that is changed a little. But profiler isn't made up.

Um...that isn't entirely true. The FBI does have a Behavioral Sciences Unit, or BSU, on which the BAU is based. Profiling is a specialty pioneered by John E. Douglas, an FBI agent, in the '80s and onward, and continues to be a field of specialization at the FBI. Does that answer you question?
