This extract is dedicated to a stage of creation of the forest reserve Yaryomovka (Ukraine, Kharkiv region, Izium district)
In this extract of the film, using Yaryomovka forest reserve as an example, the author will show you how Kharkiv Regional Forestry and Hunting Administration destroys valuable nature territories. The Administration disinforms the regional government, officially claiming that the abovementioned areas do not possess any biotic value. At the same time the forestry enterprises near those areas destroy the forest, which is the basis of preserving the diversity of animals and plants.
Remarkably, as soon as the foresters find out about the plans for the creation of a new forest reserve, they immediately start conducting high-volume economic activity in the area planned for nature reservation, making it lose all attractiveness which it had in the first place. Neither the burrows of the badgers, belonging to the Red Book, nor the nests of big prey birds stop the forest thieves. Almost nothing does. It seems that only a loud scandal may change the situation, as has been the case with Yaryomovka forest reserve in the Kharkiv region.
In 2008 the Izium forestry enterprise sued Valeriy Lovchinovskiy, claiming that his documentary "Where has the forest gone? It was still here yesterday!"

contained untrue information. However, the Izium forestry enterprise lost its case against Valeriy Lovchinovskiy first in Kyivskiy district court of Kharkiv and later in Kharkiv regional arbitral court. The court ruled that the information presented in the film was fully true (as to the lawsuit of the State company "Izium forestry enterprise") and acknolwledged that the film was socially important.
Members of local and national councils, who are also hunters (and in many cases poachers too) pose another problem when establishing nature reserves. They skillfully manipulate the public opinion and try to put the villagers against the creation of reserves. At the same time they mercilessly exploit the area in their own hunting interests. Many events which you will see in the film are history now. Actually, the whole film is history. However, we mustn't forget it and should know the so-called heroes of those dramatic events. You will see unique footage from the meeting in Studenok village (Izium district, Kharkiv region), where hunters and poachers together with the meeting chair V. Burlakova fool the local community.
The process of establishing "Yaryomovka forest reserve" beloning to the Nature Preservation Fund was brought to a dead end by the members of Izium district council, hunters and poachers O. Kotelevskiy, V. Tertyshniy, mayor of Izium Bogdan Sidor, gamekeeper and poacher A. Vovk, forester of Studenok forest district A. Lobko, director of Izium forestry enterprise A. Pavlenko, hunters and members of Kharkiv regional council O. Shapovalov and A. Rusanov.
One could only wish that these people would find a way out of this dead-end situation with similar enthusiasm.
