@stangcrazy306 Back before they had such a huge aftermarket supply of cylinder heads, it was tough to get 450 hp from a 300 incher. But they make it pretty easy these days. CarCraft Magazine took a bone stock HO 302 using even the stock camshaft, bolted on AFR heads, and got 400 hp and 380 ft/lbs of torque on the dyno. Since youtube doesn't let you post links, you can google CarCraft's engine build and read it, it's pretty interesting, and shows how important the cylinder head is for performance

@AmericanThunder Don't believe what you read in the mags. They get paid to advertise for paying sponsors. A stock HO 302 with a stock camshaft and AFR 165's will not make 400hp in the real world. I have built several combanations myself and I know what it takes to make 400hp from a 302.
That engine might have actually made 370-380hp without the accessories. Add the alt., water pump, power steering and ac back on it and it would make 320-330hp in the real world.

If you're running over 7000rpm a tunnel ram is the only way to go

@Craig123Jesus: Man I'd love to drop that engine in something that weighs no more than 2500lbs.
-
@Mesabalancing: Is this an OHC engine or an OHV?
-
@Fisko242 306 is a base 302 block with a .030 over bore your pistons should say .030 on tops or you can use a micro... to measure the bore
-
@beepandbop 0.30 over bore
-
@Mesabalancing 450 is Definitely good, a 306 is roughly 5.0L so sesh...
-
@AmericanThunder thanks man, got rid of the car, now working on a 91 notch building a 306 for it
-
@beepandbop its a 302 cubic inch motor with an over bore of .030 the extra bore makes it a 306
-
How did you get this to displace 306 cubic inches??
You must have barely stroked the 302...I'm assuming that was the base motor. Or did you bore it out a couple millimeters each cylinder??
great power from pump gas street engine
