@ChuChuBaca22 Raccoons are rabies vector species along with skunks, bats, coyotes, foxes. That doesn't mean they all carry the disease. Humans can also carry rabies and infect others. Raccoons would rather flee from you than attack you. They eat insects, trash, dead animals.

@MaryCummins Our neighbor went coon hunting years ago and shot the mother not knowing she had two babies -this was in Virginia. He took the girl and gave the boy to us to raise. It's illegal here to have wild animals, but I raised him by a dropper, as his eyes were still closed. I kept Bandit until adulthood, then sadly gave him to a good family in Ohio, who were able to keep him legally & help him back into the wild. I loved him so much -still do!

I live in Ohio we had 2 as pets for many years. Their mother was killed and we nursed them and a groundhog back to health along with a squirrel. Our house was a regular zoo. I will say during the time the female was in esterus they got a little rowdy and we kept them seperated. They are not good pets, we rescued them and they wouldn't have made in the wild. But, there are better pets out there. Try a siamese cat I can tell you they are crazy loveable little creatures.

@SoTia2000 if your in the state of Texas its legal, but marycummins is right, they can be destructive, but they can be taught to be much less aggressive like any other mammal, so in most states its not recommended, but Texas really doesn't care about the subject.
MaryCummins, I was wondering what kind of certifications you have to have to be able to interact with animals like this. I am currently pursuing an Environmental Science degree, focusing on Animal Conservation. Working at a wildlife sanctuary and doing any kind of wildlife rehabilitation is my dream job. Thanks!

@TheSleepyRaccoon You just have to volunteer for a permitted rehabber. If you want your own permit, the requirements vary by state. Thanks!

@SoTia2000 They're not legal pets in most states. While they are cute as babies they can become quite aggressive and destructive as adults. If you want to care for baby raccoons, volunteer for a local rehabber.
