'Poems for Piano: The Piano Music of Marion Brown.' Compositions by the late Marion Brown, inspired by the work of Jean Tommer, and played by Amina Claudine Myers.
Storm Ending
by Jean Toomer
Thunder blossoms gorgeously above our heads,
Great, hollow, bell-like flowers,
Rumbling in the wind,
Stretching clappers to strike our ears . . .
Full-lipped flowers
Bitten by the sun
Bleeding rain
Dripping rain like golden honey—
And the sweet earth flying from the thunder.
melts me into a mush-ball, this does. i give my friend doug at wfmu credit for turning me on to this performer.. "give the drummer some" is the name of his show; he did a marion brown tribute last friday. there are archives.

Thanks for posting this. I heard Amina play this program at Hampshire College back in the early '80s, with Marion in the audience. Peace to you, Marion!
