This is the part of Stand By Me where Chris gets emotional. It's really powerful, I guess and shows just what a good actor River was. :)

  • god damn. if a child ever deserved an oscar river did. ive rarely seen adults pull off this kind of emotion on camera. you can really see the hurt and betrayal in his face, hear it in his voice, see it in his composure. the line he says about how he wished he could "go somewhere where nobody knows me" makes me sob. such an amazing person. a soul who was on this earth too short but still managed to touch millions. R.I.P my friend.

  • I never tire if watching SBM, but when river crys, he is NOT acting...

  • this scene is as real as it gets....cuz Rob Reiner the director asked River to think of someone that hurt him like that teacher hurt Chris and well this was the result such amazing talented actor such a shame he died so young.

  • @idkwtdok

it was THAT good, that river made will cry in this scene

  • @idkwtdok

so the director pulled him aside and explained that this is a very emotional scene for "chris" as he shares a memory with "gordie", he told river to think of an emotioinal time in his life where was betrayed by an adult and let THAT feeling out in the shot. he never told the director what it was but said he was ready and well if you have seen the movie you know the outcome.

when river cries is this scene it IS NOT acting he is actually really crying in this scene. yes, this is true because i have a copy of this movie with all the actors and director talking about different things. here is the reason this scene was so emotional and done very VERY good (may favorite scene of the entire movie) this scene was shot like 4-5 times but river just couldnt get it right

  • what? actor? with? talent?!

  • best movie of all time

  • I'm doing this monologue as Chris oh man it's harder than I thought -:(

  • My favorite movie of all time. This coming from somebody who loves all 5 "Dirty Harry" movies, no joke

  • I really do love this movie

  • The thing about this scene is how strong River first started out - kind of tough and rough and then as the scene gradually went on you saw him open up and show how truly sad he was about being treated the way he was.

Absolutely amazing. Oscar worthy for this scene alone.
