The BackPack Shelf from Twelve South essentially is a shelving system for Apple's iMac and Cinema Displays. The device is surprisingly detailed to fit a wide range of products. This is a great solution to organize cables and clear up desk clutter. In the review, I looked at using two shelves; one for a Time Machine backup HDD and as a charger station for an iPhone.

  • @mozdonny Well then it's not really the case of whether BackPack is useful, but rather Mac vs PC war ;) I understand your point, and I respect it, but I guess most of iMac users like the fact that it's all-in-one and hate all the cables. Many of them wouldn't like the HDD somewhere on the desk or under it. For us, having it neatly hidden on a little shelf behind the iMac is nice.

  • @radexpp Mate, you can place it into the chassis of a regular computer you know, so there is a compact shelf, with cooling and defense against regular dust.

The cable mess is a connector in a regular PSU that you connect your harddrive to, or if you were talking about an external HDD with some fast interface connector like USB 2.0/3.0 firewire, thunderbolt or whatever it uses, you can still place it in the PC case by all means!

  • @mozdonny how's that useless? You can place there, for example, the hard drive you use for time machine without making a cable mess. It's perfect for all us cable haters ;) It makes iMac even more "zen" ;)

  • I just got this for my 27 in iMac, it works great, except that my desk is against a wall, and the back pack steals about an inch of real-estate from the back, making the computer seem too close when I sit in-front of it. Small price to pay, I'll just sit further back. Overall, great gadget, it really helped me clear up some space on my desk.

  • @toranaman Yeah well, sorry for the inaccuracy.

It is still a particularily useless shelf.

  • @mozdonny wasn't made by apple

  • A shelf...

And a particularily useless one hmm.

    Nice innovation there apple!
