Paul Smalley is on a mission to produce at least two first-team Pompey players after the new batch of scholars took their first steps on the road to professional football yesterday.
A group of 13 fresh-faced youngsters signed two-year deals with the Blues in a bid for future stardom at Fratton Park, while a 14th -- Jack Burns -- has recently undergone knee surgery and could yet sign in December.
Six players have come through the club's youth system, with three local lads -- Sam Magri, Ashley Harris and James Jennings -- among them and another three from the Isle of Wight.
Two recruits have arrived from the Republic of Ireland, with one of those -- Chinedu Vine -- down to the link-up with Home Farm FC.
And a further five have been signed from the club's link-up with Australian development programmes.
