Caught this give or take 100 pound blue shark on my daughters Barbie Rod during the 2009 Monster Shark Tournament. I respooled with 30lb power pro braid. The reason I even used the barbie rod was because we were bored of catching blue sharks all day and thought it would be interesting to try....Also had a bet with some Captains that it cold be done...The shark seemed intoxicated, more than likely from sitting back in the chum slick for most the day feeding, regardless it was fun and the shark was released unharmed...

  • 100 lbs? I am quite skeptical of that. never the less I am very impressed that that fish was landed on a barbie rod. did it have the origional line on it?

  • According to shark charts a 6' blue shark can range from 85 to 115 pounds, we had a tape measure on the side of the boat and it was right at that mark, so yes its estimate, but I'm not gonna kill it to find out exact weight. The reel comes stock with 6lb test, I beefed it up for my daughter with 50lb braid " 12 pound diameter" and it had a 50lb mono leader on it, Its all for fun, we don't get serious when fishing, just out to have fun...

  • Dora rod > Barbie rod

  • You have truly inspired me! Im going to get me one and put some 30lb braid with a 100 lb wire leader! i hope i dont get made fun of on the pier.....

  • You can tell it's mattel, cause it's swell!

  • @shyboy3400 What does my username say [curtgowdysharkhunter] i think that implies that i no a little something about fishing, ive caught 15 pound sharks and they fight particulary well, blue sharks are one of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean, if you new anything about fishing u would know this video is fake. have a nice day

  • @curtgowdysharkhunter You Sir, Are an Idiot if you think that shark is 15lbs, and also if you think the original gear is rigged as well. Learn2Fish.

  • this is fake, it was caught on regular gear and then they put a hook in its mouth with the barbie rod attached, because ive caught sharks of that size and they will spool about 50 yards off this shark didnt run it just sat there, and thats more like 15lbs not 100lbs

  • Awesome lol

  • Just to think I've been spending my money on all this high dollar equipment. I'm returning all of it and on my way to Wal-Mart right now to get my own Barbie rod. I think ill get the Spider Man one too just incase I need the extra power.

  • Imagine if you caught a megalodon shark on that you would pulled in and eaten alive
