Earth Day at Missouri S&T

Missouri S&T and the EcoCAR team will reached approximately 1,000 area school kids about the importance of renewable energy, clean energy, and energy conservation on Earth Day. The Earth Day celebration is an annual event at Missouri S&T. This year's theme was "Be Green! Keep the Planet Clean."

The EcoCAR team is in competition with 15 other universities to re-engineer a GM vehicle, minimizing energy consumption, emissions, and greenhouse gases while maintaining the vehicles utility, safety, and performance. Missouri S&T and the EcoCAR team are committed to educating about energy technologies and the importance of conservation and efficiency to our future.

As part of the Rolla Earth Day 2010 celebration at Missouri S&T, the S&T EcoCAR team invited students and members of the community for a one of a kind tour. The tour showcased a hydrogen-electric car designed by students at the university. Visitors could see the EcoCAR garage where S&T students work on the vehicle. Also, the tour included how hydrogen is produced at Missouri S&T - the only hydrogen station in Missouri.

Interest in renewable energy and the EcoCAR was high, and the teams feedback board was full with questions and comments. Throughout the day, students and the EcoCAR team discussed ways to stay green and conserve energy at home. The students enthusiasm for green technology was exciting, and the S&T EcoCAR team is optimistic about future opportunities to teach about clean and renewable energy.
