Come to the final planning board's meeting on Valley Hospital's expansion with your family and neighbors. Monday June 21st at George Washington Middle School @ 7:30pm. Stand up! Be counted! Make a difference for generations to come. If you live in Ridgewood, your quality of life WILL be affected!
Two things you should know is that Valley is a NOT for profit hospital, and that Valley tried to purchase Pascack Valley Hospital, but Hackensack a FOR profit hospital had more political and monetary strength. As a FOR profit facility HMC will be able to pick through and admit the most profitable cases and treat and discharge to local facilities the least profitable (Medicare/Medicaid) & (uninsured/under-insured)cases. This imbalance will cause a serious problem for all the other local hospitals

@birdphone
Just imagine for a moment how small and rudimentary a hospital Valley would be if it only served Ridgewood residences.
So what your saying is that the renewal isn't necessary because we already serve the region effectively? Great...agreed!

@Ridgewoodmom1 what is the planning board gaining, and what are we gaining as residents? It is insane to think that the planning board would turn their backs on their own residents.

@KURTMASURSINGS a construction project or two yes perhaps...but this is 6 years of construction for just phase one. I bought my home thinking that zoning laws wouldn't be changed in order to allow a for profit hospital to make even more money. Why are we amending anything, instead of re-openeing pascack.

@fostersrevenge the man arrested was from Hackensack and was not associated with the CRR. You may disagree with the resident's actions but they might believe they taught their children a great lesson in standing up for what they believe in. The residents have fought this for the past three years, it shouldn't be a surprise that they became frustrated.

The hospital is not doubling in capacity, contrary to some misinformed peoples beliefs. The hospital is going from 451 beds to 453 beds, the footprint of the hospital is increasing to provide all private rooms to all patients. The fact that a resident was arrested for misconduct and a planning board member was physically threatened is absolutely disgraceful, if you want the best for your children you should start by being a better role model.

It is very effective to use cute innocent children for this side of the argument. How about cute innocent sick children who will be helped but the Valley renewal. Would that sway people in the other direction? Let's use more logic and less emotion on this.

If you think the 6% is supposed to reflect that Valley doesn't serve Ridgewood, you've missed the point. If Valley doubles in size, the traffic is going to increase, and since it's coming from out of town it will be distributed throughout the entire village (since people will be coming to Valley from all directions).
Also how can you argue that Valley needs to expand because of Pascack's closing when Valley has directly fought Hackensack to prevent them from expanding in that lot

I love the part that says 6% of patients are from out of town, as if that were relevant. Could you imagine if more than 6% of any regional hospital's patients were from within the town limits? It would be an incredibly unhealthy town...willfully ignores the sheer number of people that Valley treats, esp. since Pascack closed. People, if you buy a house near a hospital, there will most likely be a construction project or two while you're living there..plant some trees and use some miracle grow

Congratulations Valley, if the parents of this town are so concerned about the welfare of the children, they should embrace the fact that they have and will continue to have the best healthcare available. I don't think theres many residents out there dragging there loved ones to Hackensack or Englewood to seek the quality of medical care that Valley provides. The fact of the matter is the hospital has been here longer than most of the residents, like it or not it's here to stay.
