The last Vline passenger train from Leongatha on July 24 1993. The train is seen at Leongatha before departure; departing Leongatha; arriving and departing Korumburra and also Lang Lang. This was the last regularly scheduled train on the South Gippsland Railway in Victoria Australia; the railway which a few years earlier, terminated at Yarram.

  • What're the explosions at 7:29?

  • @scottfranzhorvath The explosions are detonators placed on the rails. When the wheels hit them they go off. Detonators were, or are generally used for such as warning train drivers of track maintenance work ahead, or of obstacles such as a stalled or parked train ahead, and they were used use to alert drivers of signal locations in thick fog, particularly in the days of limited communications. In this case, they were used to farewell the last official Vline passenger train from Leongatha.

  • This video is really great...do you have any more of V/Line trains on the Leongatha line?

  • @magpiesextreme123 There are some more on the -- reidgck channel -- if you haven't seen them. I have more too and of the pulling up of the line beyond Leongatha including the rail recovery trains which ran a couple of years or so after the line closed. Hope to post them when eventually edited.

  • I must say I see a lot of hypocrisiy in regardes to this video - if You are saddened by this video and the discontinuing of this video of a convient serviece that was ceases by the Kennent libereral governemtn and you voted for Kennet in 8/92 election then are a mighty hypocrite!! It seems as LEO is a weak arse lickin town with no will power these days - they don't seem to care for the envrroment to the extent of trains and have to courage to put other things before money.

  • @CAD390 -- The Transport Minister of the same government who lived around that way and was even re-elected, had promised when in Oppositon, to run the rail service with Sprinter railcars, but once in power, he sided with the economic rationalists who wanted the line closed to run buses. A lot of the drama revolved around contracts and contractors regarding a bus service. It's recorded in the local newspapers of the area at that time. I think there were many thumbs in the pie.
