VSEO Thumbnail test 30. At Video Leads Online we do extensive VSEO testing. http://www.videoleadsonline.com/vseo-thumbnail-test.html

Victor the VSEO Hound "snifs out" how YouTube chooses thumbnails for our videos. ((Not Complete Yet--still working on it!))

This is another upload of a thumbnail test video to test the various video hosting site's treatment of videos when it comes to assigning thumbnails for that video. This 30 second upload is a .m4v format. It was uploaded 10:20pm May 5, 2008. We sent up another one that was a .mov format.

If you would like to work with people who do this type of testing to offer the very best to their clients, then check out our website--you can start on the results page for these tests: http://www.videoleadsonline.com/vseo-thumbnail-test.html

  • Update! We did NOT crack the code yet. It has been determined that our method only works if you are willing to run a counter the entire length of the video.

Stay tuned for future reports (Subscribe to be automatically notified if/when we figure it out).

  • I believe you are speaking another test we did for youtube thumbnails in a 35 sec. video. The middle Thumbnail from that one was at 11.27 while this "shorter video" - the 30 sec. one - shows the middle Thumbnail at 13.15.

The oddness you mention is all part of YouTube Thumbnails seeming to be "random". But we did figure it out! We cracked the code!

Search in YouTube for "YouTube Thumbnails Test 30", choose "more info" and click the links to get to the "Secret Code" posted on our website.

  • seems odd that the shorter video (this one) has a thumbnail further into the video than the longer one. Your description text points out that they both have the "middle" thumbnail chosen, right?
