D7 CAT powered Chicago Pneumatic air compressor

This compressor supplies starting air for the big engines.

Amazing to realize that Chicago Pneumatic was once an American company!

  • So at 90psi it would put out how many CFM?

  • The engine itself is a D8800 4cylinder. This engine was indeed used in the early D7 dozers, but it was also used in air compressors, crains and there was even a marine version.

  • I would love to see it start up

  • My company used to have one of these to run tests on railroad air dryers. I had more fun fooling around with this thing; it was a blast!!

  • Thats the coolest air compressor ive ever seen!! Great vid!

  • This compressor is at Coolspring power Museum one of the main air sources for the museum

  • im guessing that is currently used to air start the other engines! that is one huge compressor!
