I would say he's more jump blues than rockabilly .. there is an element of a slight country tinge .. Oscar was black .. and my thoughts are he came from the Louis Jordan school , rather than hillbilly ..I had a great 10" vinyl years ago on ACE Uk .. it's all on CD now GREAT rockin.. music .. lyrics are all throw away stuff .. but what a band !
According to the liner notes of Teenage Rock and Roll Party (Ace Records, 1994), this song was recorded in 1955. It also says that the song "Hey Girl, Hey Boy," recorded with Jeanette Baker was recorded in 1958. The two apparently refused to work together after that one song.
PERHAPS THE EARLIEST PIONEER of rockabilly music from the very early 1950's, Oscar McLollie's best known recording done with his backing group, The Honey Jumpers... this One recall's having played this great olde classic song on a college radio station ( circa 1972) but sadly, the Neanderthals there didn't really appreciate this rare gem of a record!
so glad to have "discovered" this man's music right years after everyone seemed to have forgotten his superb legacy left on 78-RPM disks.
I didn't know he passed away. Thanks for letting me know. What a bummer! I wish he had been more popular. Convicted is definitely a good tune. Oscar was simply wicked awesome and WAY too underrated.

Lots of country singers went rockabilly for a few songs, some hits, but lots of misses. Roy Orbison, Conway Twitty, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, etc.
