Professor Henry Louis Gates explores the nature of myths created over time about the ancestory of blacks in America. It turns out (through DNA evidence) that there is not as much of racial mixture between African Americans and Native Americans as was once thought.
Possible reasons for the misinformation include covering up personal tragedies and a desire to identify with a culture that is archetypically proud and strong.
@illuminatijews I agree completely with you about 'race'. 'Scientists have actually been saying for quite a while that race, as biology, doesn't exist - that there's no biological basis for race.' This is something I have known since I was a kid. I strongly dislike the word 'race' when used in this context, and Americans focus far too much on it. In 2012 it should be an issue that's long-forgotten. This is my friend's account BTW, so I'll most likely answer from my own next time.

@TheDidddler
i mean no disrespect. Its just that, some people say they have European ancestry, just to gain acceptance, i guess. I dont want to be that way. I believe all humans are the same and thus, acknowledging race is just wrong, i think. Do you really think god cares what color you are? or where you came from?

@illuminatijews Well, that's pretty racist of you, isn't it?
