This is a 1979 v6 Detroit. My grandad Mike Henly Had a hole fleet of these at one point. Me and my dad Heath have sucsesfully restored this fine unit back to almost perfection. We go to many shows pulling a smart logging trailer makes her grunt abit a very smart loverly sounding lorry.

  • I agree, nice one, keep on trucking.

  • nice!

  • Hi, there is a bloke near market Harborough David Crouch on +44 (0) 7711 750321, they are a large recovery firm but specialize in dealing in military equipment, i rang him before a very nice bloke i think he quoted me roughly £750ish for a good ex military cab.

  • This TM looks fantastic in the video. Would love to see it close up!! does anybody know where I could pick up a cab for one?? Mine is an 1984 6 wheeler with a curtainsider body!! It has the cummins L10 donkey!!

  • love em, with the v6 saw this in cvc the other month nice job by you both

  • A guy who farms just off the B1038 road (Essex/Herts) still has at least two of these for hauling straw at harvest time. I use this road regularly in my horsebox and have passed them a few times. I worked for Vauxhalls when this model was produced and was very involved with them during the 70's.

  • woah man, nice truck 5/5

  • very rare these days, it was an under rated wagon. it didnt help that the only practical engine option was the cummins L10, detroits whilst sounding good were just too thirsty for UK operators, and bedford's 500 was out of its depth in an artic

  • we had the 8V71 detroit tm bedfords and we still got them now

  • My late father and uncle had a small haulage business in Edinburgh in the 1980s with three TMs, the oldest having the Detroit unit and the latter two with the Cummins L10, all with the Eaton splitter gearbox. Have many happy memories of travelling on these machines, the Detroit sounded amazing!! Thanks for a great posting, haven't heard this sound for about twenty years!! Great to see this lorry surviving, didn't think there were any left!! Good luck with this project!!
