Breast Cancer is the most common form of cancer among women. It is more common in rich countries than in poor and it increase when a country gets richer.

But with increased income comes also better chances to save those women that get cancer. New Cancer-data in Gapminder World shows how more and more women in a country like Sweden gets breast cancer every year but also how fewer and fewer dies from that cancer. • I love Hans Rosling however this is very miss leading. The WHO statistics are calculated on the basis that a cancer surviver is someone that is still alive 5 years after diagnosis. If he dies after 6 years he is still statistically a surviver! The figures have improved therefore because billions has been spent on detection.Because cancer is normally growing up to 15 years inside you before you die earlier detection means statistically more people live. Google Cancer rate survival criteria.

  • It seems that the richer a country grows, the more resources can be allocated to breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Earlier diagnosis can improve survival rates

  • So the statistics show a correlation between number of breast cancer cases and increased wealth. I understand that we would like to lower treatment costs. But wouldn't it be better and more affordable in the longer run to try to understand what in our habits are causing cancer and therefore prevent it naturally instead of defeating it?

This isn't rocket science. It's just common sense.

Thank you for another great video!

  • very interesting, i was just wondering this from the last video.

  • damned good question
