Hi Eric this i kinda my 'video-response' to your email! Well i was bored what can i say... I actually wanted to add several more bits & pieces, but MovieMaker wasnt doing what i wanted it to. It made me wanna hit something... me, the pacifist. However I think this vid makes my point a little clearer.

Btw WOW that Pac-Man maze of yours in Ms. Pac-Man colors is pretty awesome lol - it really would be cool to play it! Maybe one day eh... i'll be interested to know what TG think of it tho.

As far as recording in MAME goes: I do get sound playback with 'play and record' but the point was that i can't upload an .inp-file directly to youtube for example without first recording that game again with my screen recorder, whereby i lose the sound! So hence my option was to record only wave output from the mame-game and simultaneously record with QSR lol - how are YOU doing it then? File-conversion program? Or am i missing something simple here coz otherwise i don't get it.

Hey here's part of an interesting message response i got from gstrain(TG) a.k.a. Zhorik(YouTube):
"With regard to controlling the fruits, the developer that added Ms-pac to MAME and another one that read through all the code both say that you can't control it. There's a register that changes every 1/60th of a second that changes everytime you change the direction you press the joystick. Since it's not possible to use the the exact same patterns on mspac, and even if you could use patterns you couldn't time your exact motions every 1/60th a second, you aren't going to be able to control the fruit. Some players have theories and claim to be
able to manipulate the fruit a bit, but my vote is that the programmers are right and you can't. One of the programmers made a cryptic statement that you might be able to control whether you always get 141 screens though, but didn't give details.

An experiment you can do with save states is to save two games just before you trigger a random fruit. In one of the games, save it where you need to make a turn before eating the dot to trigger the fruit. In the other be moving on a straightaway where you don't have to turn to trigger the fruit. In the game with the turn, keep reloading and try to always get the same fruit by doing the same thing. You won't be able to since you have to time the joystick motion to 1/60th of a second for both the turn and release. On the straightaway save state, when you reload it, don't touch the joystick. You'll get the same fruit everytime."

Of course, i tried this, and for the most part he was right on the money, BUT...
I sent him this in response:
"George hiya, you were telling me about savestate games which when (re)loaded give random fruits depending on movement of joystick/keyboard. Well, I have this savestate game on a fruit-trigger in which (2) different fruits come out even though it's saved on a str8 stretch with ms-pac already in motion... exclusively cherries & strawberries tho but still! I've probably managed to save the game on the exact 1/60th of a second barrier between cherry & strawberry so that it can't choose lol. If i move keyboard arrow up or down on that same straight stretch, it does indeed give different fruits...(and sometimes a pretzel lol). Is it possible to send a savestate-file by email, so that another person's MAME will be able to open it? If not then i can just make a vid of it with my QSR and show it to you thru youtube or something. Anyway, it does seem that joystick/keyboard movement is directly proportional to the fruits... but geez it seems to me to be impossible then to force a specific one!"

Interesting stuff, no?!

Eric Good Luck with those rack-advance experiments! And i hope you have better luck than me with those damn randoms ;)

  • DAFT PUNK RULES!

  • @Scorpianfan135

    Definitely!! ;)

  • Hey Jelle147,

I was wondering how you learned to group the ghosts so well? Hours of gameplay or did you have initial help? I just purchased my cocktail Ms. Pac and am currently looking for any tips or tricks to help me advance my gameplay. I see your videos all over youtube and still can't replicate everything you are doing. Also, your website listing above has an accidental space between the "P" and "ac" in Pac. Just thought I would let you know.

Thanks, please keep posting your work.

  • Hi makemydays,

Yup hours of gameplay, was heavily addicted lol. Got a cocktail machine eh? Nice!!

Would love one of those tbh.

I'll copy my gameplay tips i sent to another player a few months ago, and send it to you via pm ;)

The Pac thing in my website link, i can't get rid of it, there was never a space there, when i'm in my account-info it looks fine, but YouTube text fields are just extremely unfriendly. Thx for trying to help tho :)

    Best of Luck!

  • that just means that your using a different rom then they had just get a different one

  • Actually, i learned from some online pals that if i use the same rom in an older version of MAME(0.90), it behaves exactly like the online mspac game! So it's all down to the way the different versions of MAME interpret the program-code, apparently. :)

    Thx for your comment! ^_^
