I didn't expect Woody to be there, but why wasn't Redford there? He wasn't there when he was nominated for the Sting either. Guess he only shows up when he knows he's going to win.

I dont know why everyone is arguing between zemeckis and tarantino because Kieslowski should have won. The academy knew he was retiring after 'Red' this was their last chance to give one of the best directors and screenwriters ever an oscar. Zemeckis went off to play around with gadgets.Kieslowski died shortly afterwards also. :(

I think "Forrest Gump" deserved best picture, but best director? There were so many better directed films that year, several of which weren't even nominated.

Yes, I've seen it many times. I've seen the other nominees as well, but Red is a whole different sphere of film making. Magnificent and truely superiour in this forced oscar-comparison. The only movie, that can barely show itself after that is actually Pulp Fiction. Shawshank R & Forrest Gump should be in a seperate catagory, for instance "Spielberg's hilarious atrocities on stage"... Take care :)

Tarantino SOOO deserved this award. It's okay though because he won the Palme D'or (something Zemeckis will never in his life ever be able to achieve, No offense to Zemeckis but yeah...Pulp kicked ass).
