@MetricSU Drumline related: MSU's line has always played circles around us. They're very good, and a lot of credit to them. However, I would never say that Michigan's line is "bad" as many comments seem to be saying or suggesting. It is a respectable, professional ensemble supporting a top-tier college marching band. As a musician, I happen to like our instructors' writing/scoring better. I do however think Weber's original stuff is very cool and entertaining, and looks fun as Hell to play.
@MetricSU What on earth are (were) we debating here? Oh well, probably should interject. I'm a U of M grad, and I marched in the snareline as a freshman. I have to agree with MetricSU, as much as I hate to say it. I'm confident in my future and my ability to be wildly successful, but it will ultimately have NOTHING to do with having a U of M degree. I have a B.S. in Economics, and minors in math and music. Job? Nope. It's going to take a MS in Accounting from EMU. Who fucking cares any more.
@michiganwolverine17 You might notice, if you read carefully, that I said in several categories. But it's neither here nor there. The rankings are based mainly on quality of the incoming students and research productivity of faculty. Neither of those factors has any direct relationship to quality of teaching. Yes, some undergraduates benefit from being on faculty research projects, but that happens at MSU, too.
Studies have shown that UM has no value-added above any other university.
@MetricSU michigan is ranked higher in the education school according to US News, which is the main ranker of public universities in the US, but either way, michigan has many departments ahead of MSU, including the law school (which is similar to the debate team, only more relevant to a career), the engineering school, pschology, business, medical, fine arts, public affairs, all of the sciences and all of the math departments.
