    I had an idea very similar to this. I called the video standard PCIe Reserve, and defined it loosely as "resources on the video card can be used by the system and vise versa such that the video card can directly aid the main processor." One possible difference that I can not determine the existance of is my idea is almost solely based in hardware as an extension of x86, while OpenCL looks like it has some form common low level language that is interpreted.
