This is the last video in a series about systems of linear equations. This lesson looks at how to solve systems by substitution. Isolate (get by itself) one variable and plug the result into the other equation. Plug the answer back into one of the original equations.

  • I'm confused as to where the -3 came as opposed to a 3 + 5.

  • Do you mean near the 3min mark in the video?

This is because I wanted to get y all by itself. To do so I had to subtract 3x from the left hand side; whatever you do to one side you have to do the the other, so thats what it is a -3 on the right.
