Dodd Vows to Continue Fight to Save the F-22

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) released the following statement today after the Senate voted to support an amendment offered by Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Carl Levin (D-MI) to strip funding for the production of seven additional F-22 Raptor fighter jets from the Defense Authorization Act. As the senior senator from Connecticut, Dodd represents more than 2,000 highly skilled engineers, machinists and aerospace workers who help build the F-22 Raptor.

Senator Dodd has raised serious concerns about shutting down the production of the F-22 Raptor since Defense Secretary Robert Gates made the announcement earlier this year. Dodd has warned that this decision would harm our economy and industrial capability, stifle our global competiveness, and place our national security at risk.

"I believe it is our duty and responsibility to protect the thousands of workers in Connecticut and across the country from losing their jobs and to ensure that our country maintains the ability to continue building the finest and most sophisticated fighter jets in the world.

"We may not have prevailed in this round, but we are not out -- not by a long shot. And I will not give up this fight.
