And maintaining the intergrity of the door?? its an exterior door, store front.. not fire blowing up a stairwell. and taking a lock the door can still be closed. heres the prob with the fire service today, too many band aids. not enough firefighting. quite obvious from these retarded posts.

?? any of you retards that think breaking out the glass instead of taking the adams rite vertical deadbolt thru the lock is faster should stay on an engine company. or become a cop. nice work chadworthks

Clearlyjohn52. Question. Do you install your plywood with tape, glue, or screws on that expensive frame you are concerned about? Probably tape. Right?

4. I have performed thru the lock on multiple store front doors and never has the occupant needed to replace a door frame. At most, you may scratch the frame a little. If you are doing more damage than that, you are doing it wrong. Many times I have reinstalled the lock for them after the incident!

3. Remember, ingress is also egress! What I mean is if you take the glass, then you better remove the pushbar because that would hinder rapid egress if conditions deteriorated and crews had to get out fast. I would bet my paycheck that I can take a lock much faster than you can take the glass and clear the opening!

2. Thru the lock allows me to force entry into a structure with an aluminum stile door while the attack line is being put in place. It can take less than five seconds to take the lock if you are proficient. If your entry person simply takes the glass while the line is stretched then I would like to know how many other fires you show up and break windows and ventilate before you pull a line.

Although I don't usually post, I just can't resist so here comes "The List"
1. If you are struggling with the concept of "maintaining the integrity of the door", perhaps you should review you Essentials or Fundamentals of Firefighting. What happens is you allow an uncontrolled opening to be created in backdraft or flashover conditions? If I take the lock and open the door, and the fire reacts violently to the incoming air, I CAN CLOSE THE DOOR AND START PLAN B.

Clearlyjohn52. How many times have you done this? What kind of metal is the door constructed out of and what kind of metal is the lock manufactured with? Which is softer? I too have never gone to a fire with glass still intact. Are you kidding me. They don't make these doors out of plate glass. By the way, which compartment do you keep your plywood in on your rig?
wouldnt it be easier to break the glass?

possibly.....unless it is laminated glass, or lexan which we are coming across more of now. Also, one of the rules of forcible entry is "maintain integrity of the door" hence, breaking the glass would destroy any integrity at all of the door. Plus, the benefit of doing thru the lock like this is that you can re secure the door after the fire has been extinguished, checked the building, etc. email me and we can talk more about it if you like. chadsworthks@yahoo
