This Illinois Stories program documents the entire day from its start at Abraham Lincoln Capitol Airport at 5:30 in the morning until they arrive back in Springfield at 9:15 that evening to a rousing welcome by hundreds of well wishers who packed the terminal.

The Land of Lincoln Honor Flight is an organization that makes it possible for World War II veterans from across central Illinois to visit the nation's tributes to their service in Washington DC. Host of Illinois Stories, Mark McDonald, accompanied the veterans on this trip to document their experience.

One hundred-four veterans had the opportunity to visit the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and witness the "changing of the guard" at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery.
