i totally agree with redwitch0587, do you agree that over time things change? well thats what has happened, in islam we have had many messengers and some of them link with a religion which is still existing today e.g. Prophet Jesus (pbuh) and christianity.
Whenever a new Prophet is appointed, the followers are supposed to follow him but over time branches startd breaking out and people with very strong beliefs sticked with older beliefs instead of following Allah's command and following the new
