This video shows how small-budget installations on vacant lots can improve the urban condition, pedestrian experience, and also provide economic stimulus for surrounding businesses.
Allowing land to sit vacant for years until developers finally obtain funding for big projects deteriorates surrounding neighborhoods and provides no economic or creative boons for the city.
We need community gardens and small private farms. We should be planting trees that produce fruit. That would be a really good use of some of this space.
@jacksonsaunders I've been thinking about how awesome it would be if some of the old citrus groves that used to be everywhere in the valley could be re-introduced. Valley of the Sunflowers is at least a more budget-friendly look at the same sort of intervention.
This is very cool, but I kept getting involved in the traffic instead of the illustration of change....Who is driving this car? I kept wondering, and How does he avoid colliding with the cross trafic that turns right in front of him?
@patriciakono Good point. The intention was just to show ambient traffic in the background and not to case distraction. I'll keep that in mind when making the next video.
2:16 Yeah, put in more trees that shed their leaves... so they can be cleaned up by workers with GAS powered leaf blowers. That'll help nature and improve the city budget!
